Legislative Advocacy

Our Washington Team members from Chambers, Conlon & Hartwell, LLC serve as our grassroots and grasstops lobbying firm on the Hill. Our team is focused on issues that impact short line businesses including the Short Line Railroad Investment Act, or 45G Tax Credit, fighting increases in truck size and weight on our nation’s highways, and ensuring that short lines have access to services and resources that meet our needs. Educating our elected officials at the national level is critical to our success.

In addition, CCH is available to ASLRA members for Grassroots Events (link to Grassroots Advocacy) involving local, state, and Congressional officials in your towns. Contact Lindsey Collins for more information.

Regulatory Advocacy

Our Regulatory team advocates on members’ behalf on all regulations that may impact the short line industry. This includes monitoring activity in the OSHA, the Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and other federal agencies. Our staff experts file briefs, respond to requests for comment, and often draft provisions of Regulations. ASLRRA also offers a full suite of training on compliance and safety regulations.

Finally, ASLRRA Staff represent our members on a wide variety of standing Committees and Panels and partner with associations such as the American Association of Railroads (AAR), OLI, GoRail, and more.
