Congratulations to this year's Distinguished Service Award winner, Mort Fuller!

Mortimer (Mort) Fuller III received the Thomas L. Schlosser Distinguished Service Award, ASLRRA’s highest honor. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated long-term, significant service to the Association. Fuller helped found Regional Railroads of America (RRA) in the late 1980s, and that group grew into a prominent lobbying organization for short lines. RRA later merged with the American Short Line Railroad Association, forming today’s ASLRRA. Fuller was also one of the organizers of the first Railroad Day on the Hill in 1994, providing members of the railroad community with a chance to meet with lawmakers to promote the interests of the rail industry. “Mort is not only one of the founding fathers of our industry, but also one of the founding fathers of the short line association in its current form,” Jack Hellmann, Chairman, President and CEO of Genesee & Wyoming (G&W), noted in his remarks. “I have had the privilege of working with Mort for nearly 20 years, and for me he has been a friend, a colleague and a mentor.” Fuller led Genesee & Wyoming Inc. through four decades of growth, from its days as a 14-mile short line to what it has become today — a portfolio of 122 freight railroads around the world. He became President, CEO and Chairman of the company in 1977,  serving as CEO for 30 years and Chairman for 40.
