Join FRA and ASLRRA for this comprehensive two-day training seminar covering Part 228 Hours of Service and Part 240/242 Engineer & Conductor Certification Process and Audit Findings. On day one, FRA’s Bill Smith will lead an in-depth review of the Hours of Service regulation, including a review of signal maintainer and dispatcher requirements. The special requirements of the ASLRRA 6-day waiver will be discussed in detail. In the future, FRA plans to conduct focused audits on short lines and this seminar will help prepare and educate short lines on the dos and don’ts and proper recordkeeping.
On day two, FRA’s Kevin Lewis will lead a detailed discussion on the findings of the focused audits performed on 80 short lines in 2022. FRA plans to audit 80 short lines per year to provide a continuous 5-year cycle of review, similar to the drug and alcohol audits. Short lines attending the training will learn how FRA performs an audit, what they will look for, and how to comply. Kevin will also review the requirements of engineer and conductor certification, including DSLE requirements and proper documentation for certification. Recordkeeping requirements will be a primary focus of discussion on both days.
William Smith, HQ Specialist, Hours of Service, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
Kevin Lewis, Program Manager of Engineer and Conductor Certification, FRA
